Future Industries Become Sarawak’s New Focus, Attracting Foreign Investment
SUZHOU: Sarawak is poised to move with confidence into the next phase of its development by concentrating on building future-oriented industries, positioning the state as a competitive and appealing destination for foreign investment within the ASEAN region.
Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, said he now has a fresh concept for the proposed industrial park, one that differs from the initial plan formulated before this visit.
He explained that, as a result of this official working trip, the concept will be refined to align not only with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), but also with the needs of the emerging economy and what is increasingly recognised as the industries of the future.
“Upon my return, I will convene a special meeting to discuss this matter,” he said during a press conference following his working visit to the GCL Group Headquarters here on Friday.
Accompanying the Sarawak Premier were the Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy Berhad and PETROS), Datuk Ibrahim Baki, Chairman of PETROS, Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Hamid Bugo, PETROS Group Chief Executive Officer, Dato Janin Girie, along with other delegates.
In this regard, the Sarawak Premier sees the potential for future development not only within the ASEAN region, but also on a global scale.
Therefore, he emphasised the need for the state’s development approaches and strategies to be recalibrated in line with the shifting economic landscape, especially after seeing these advancements first-hand.
“This is because our goal and aspiration is to establish Sarawak as the star of ASEAN, particularly now that we are becoming more closely connected with our fellow ASEAN member countries.
“In addition, we will diversify our economic activities by harnessing clean and renewable energy as our primary resource, enabling us to produce modern and competitive products derived from these energy sources,” he added. -UKASnews
