Sarawak As SHInE 2026 Host Catalyst For Advancement Of Global Health & Science Innovation
KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawak's selection as host of the SHInE 2026 International Conference: 'Advancing Science, Health, Innovation and Engineering' from 9 to 11 September 2026 in Kuching will act as a catalyst for the advancement of global health and science innovation.
Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said that the organisation of SHInE 2026 reflects the Sarawak Government's continued commitment to developing a world-class research ecosystem capable of generating practical solutions to current challenges.
According to him, Sarawak not only plays the role of host, but also aims to be a hub that connects research, innovation and policy implementation comprehensively for the benefit of society.
"This conference is a catalyst for efforts to strengthen international cooperation networks and open up new opportunities in the field of high-impact research and development," he said in a press conference, here, on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Organising Chairman Ts Dr Peter Morin Nissom explained that SHInE 2026 brings a grand vision in shaping the future innovation ecosystem by bringing together multidisciplinary expertise under one strategic platform.
In a similar development, the Chief Executive Officer of the Sarawak Infectious Diseases Centre (SIDC), Associate Professor Dr Ivan Yap Kok Seng informed that his party now has more than 30 active collaboration partners including international networks that support the development of vaccine research, genomics and health technology.
He added that strategic collaborations with global partners such as the UKSEA Vax Hub and Asia PGI also strengthen Sarawak's capabilities in the field of high-impact research.
Among the main highlights of this conference include the participation of more than 300 participants from home and abroad, presentations by more than 30 international experts, talent development programs through the BrightSparX initiative and an innovation exhibition involving more than 30 organisations.
In addition, this conference also provides a business matching platform, technical visits and the launch of the latest products that could potentially accelerate the growth of technology-based and health-based industries.
The organisation of SHInE 2026 is seen as a strategic step in strengthening Sarawak's position as a research and innovation hub in the region, contributing to the development of a knowledge-based economy and enhancing the state's global competitiveness.
