Sarawak Loses A Great Intellectual – Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi
KUCHING: Sarawak has lost a courageous intellectual who spoke the truth without fear or favour, following the passing of economic analyst, the late Associate Prof Dato Dr Madeline Berma.
Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, described her as a figure who was vocal in offering perspectives on contemporary issues regardless of political affiliation. He noted her particular strength as a researcher who examined issues with great depth and rigour.
The Governor made these remarks to reporters while paying his final respects alongside his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, at the late Dato Dr Madeline’s residence in Siol Kandis on Thursday.
During the visit, he and Toh Puan Fauziah expressed their deepest condolences and offered words of comfort to the bereaved family.
Dato Dr Madeline passed away at the age of 64 at her residence in Bandar Baru Bangi last Tuesday.
Originally from Kuching, she was a distinguished economist who made significant contributions to economic development, not only within Sarawak but also on a national level.
The late Dato Dr Madeline is expected to be laid to rest at the Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Cemetery in Siol Kandis this Saturday. - UKASnews
