Krokop 5 Market To Undergo Upgrade With RM400,000 RTP Allocation
MIRI: Krokop 5 Market will undergo a comprehensive upgrading exercise with an allocation of RM400,000 under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), aimed at improving public facilities and enhancing its role as a community hub.
The project was announced by Miri Mayor and Pujut Assemblyman Adam Yii Siew Sang, who said the upgrading works are expected to be fully completed by May 2026.
He said the scope of works includes the construction of a roofed multipurpose stage, new and more comfortable toilet facilities, as well as improvements to drainage and accessibility around the market area.
According to him, the new toilet block will comprise two male toilets, two female toilets and one OKU (Disability)-friendly toilet to cater to the needs of all users, while the existing toilet space will be converted into an open dining area equipped with lighting and fans to provide a more pleasant environment for visitors.
Adam Yii also witnessed the handover of the project site by the Miri City Council Engineering Department to the appointed contractor on Monday, in addition to conducting a site inspection ahead of the commencement of works.
He stressed the importance of the contractor adhering to the project timeline and ensuring that all works comply with safety standards and practical requirements so that the benefits can be fully enjoyed by the local community.
He added that the upgrading works will also involve resurfacing damaged drains, replacing drain covers, improving the overall drainage system around the market, and constructing OKU-friendly walkways to enhance accessibility.
In addition, a total of 22 sets of tables and chairs will be provided around Krokop 5 Market to enhance public convenience and encourage community interaction.
Adam Yii said the project is not only focused on improving basic infrastructure, but also on creating a suitable community space for neighbourhood gatherings, social activities and cultural programmes.
“I hope the upgraded market will not only serve as a place to shop and dine, but also as a space where residents can gather, interact and strengthen community ties,” he said. -UKASnews
