30 Mosques & 60 Surau In Petra Jaya Receive RM330,000 In Grants
KUCHING: A total of 30 mosques and 60 surau within the Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency have received grants amounting to RM330,000 to support their management and the organisation of religious activities for the local community.
Deputy Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Petra Jaya, Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, said the assistance is aimed at easing the administrative burden of mosques and surau while ensuring these institutions continue to function as centres of unity and community development.
He also underscored the importance of sustaining well-planned and focused programmes so that the roles of mosques and surau can be strengthened in line with present-day challenges.
“This allocation is intended to help ease management needs. Should there be specific programmes requiring additional support, proposals may be submitted as usual.
“We stand ready to assist — not only myself, but Datuk Sharifah Hasidah as well — in efforts to empower mosques and surau, as this is of great importance.
“Our current challenge is to ensure that the ummah is equipped with sufficient knowledge, encompassing both worldly and spiritual understanding, as well as the skills needed to face the challenges of today and the future,” he said.
He was speaking at the grant presentation ceremony held at Masjid Darul Ibadah Kampung Semariang Lama here on Saturday.
Datuk Amar Fadillah further stressed that mosques and surau must continue to serve as platforms for community unity, centres for the pursuit of knowledge, and spaces for constructive discussion in addressing local social issues.
Also present was Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State–Federal Relations), Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali. -UKASnews
