Batang Sadong Member Of Parliament Reviews Search & Rescue Operations For Crocodile Attack Victim
SADONG JAYA: Batang Sadong Member of Parliament Rodiyah Sapiee went on the field to review the search and rescue (SAR) operations for a victim attacked by crocodiles at Batang Sadong Bridge.
The victim, identified as Mohd Faizal Abdillah, 29, from Kampung Rangawan, Sadong Jaya, was reportedly attacked by a crocodile in an incident near the Batang Sadong Bridge at about 11.00 am, Tuesday.
According to initial information, when the water was receding, the victim and a friend were walking near the bridge to catch shrimp using a net before they were suddenly grabbed and carried away by the reptile.
The SAR operation was immediately activated involving various agencies including the Sadong Jaya Subdistrict Office, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Fire and Rescue Team, Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), RELA and Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC).
Rodiyah also spent time meeting and comforting the victim's family members at the scene to provide words of encouragement and moral support.
She also emphasised that the SFC should implement awareness programmes in risky areas to provide information to villagers and the Fishermens’ Association regarding the threat of crocodiles and safety measures that must be followed.
The Simunjan Assemblyman's Service Centre has also distributed donations in the form of food and drinks for the use of the SAR team throughout the operation.
However, the victim is yet to be found and the SAR operation continues today.
