JKM Closely Monitoring Case Of Child Thrown Into Ditch, Temporary Care Decision This Monday
KUCHING: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) is closely monitoring the case of a young girl who was allegedly thrown into a ditch by her father, believed to be under the influence of drugs.
Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Dato Sri Nancy Shukri, stated that officers from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) have visited the victim, who is currently receiving treatment in hospital.
She noted that the case is scheduled to be brought to court this Monday to determine the placement and temporary care of the child.
“This case will be heard in court on Monday, and we will obtain further decisions from the court. It is understood that the child's mother and father are still in the process of divorcing.
“The court will make a temporary decision regarding the care of the child, including determining the most eligible and suitable party to look after her,” she said.
She said this when met after the Ramadan Prihatin Programme at Majlis Darul Hana, Region Five Marine Police Headquarters Sarawak in Bintawa on Saturday.
Dato Sri Nancy, who is also the Member of Parliament for Santubong, added that if no suitable party is identified, the victim along with her siblings could be placed under the care of JKM.
However, she expressed confidence that there are still close family members capable of assisting in the care of the children involved.
Earlier, the incident occurred last Wednesday morning outside the victim’s home.
The six-year-old child sustained injuries to her eyes and thighs. The victim’s mother lodged a police report on the same day.
The 43-year-old suspect was arrested the following day, and urine tests found him positive for amphetamines and methamphetamines.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, and police investigations are ongoing. — UKASnews
