Baitulmal Distribution, Fast Breaking Unite Multi-Racial Communities In Song
KAPIT: The harmony of the multi-racial community in Song continues to be evident when about 80 residents consisting of Malays, Ibans and Chinese gathered for the Bubur Lambuk Distribution Ceremony and Fast Breaking event held at the grounds of the Nurul Islam Mosque, Kampung Gelam, on Sunday.
The programme, which started as early as 6 pm, was not just a breaking of fast event, but represented a symbol of togetherness and strong unity that has long been rooted in the lives of the local community.
Katibas Assemblyman Lidam Assan completed the handover of food baskets from the Tabung Baitulmal of the Sarawak Islamic Council to 35 eligible recipients as a sign of compassion for the underprivileged.
Also present were Song District Officer Harry Bruce Edwin, Katibas Branch SABERKAS Chairman Paw Bedimbap, Kapit Division Unity Officer Lau Siew Yean, Song District Police Chief DSP Bernedict Faris Jimoy, Penghulu Abu Bakar Safiee, Penghulu John Khoo and Chairman of the Nurul Islam Song Mosque Management Committee Sulaiman Boharie.
In his speech, Lidam expressed his appreciation for the commitment of the multi-racial community who continue to support the tradition of togetherness, thus proving that the values of unity and tolerance remain strong in Song.
He stressed that the flow of progress and technological development should not erode the long-held values, culture and customs that form the core of community harmony in the district.
The programme is the result of the collaboration of Katibas Branch SABERKAS, Nurul Islam Song Mosque Management Committee, LAKIS Song, BKI IPD Song, KRT Kampung Gelam, KRT Kebiau and JKKK Kampung Gelam Song in ensuring that Ramadan continues to be celebrated with the spirit of unity and love for each other. -UKASnews
