Sarawak Engages Ericsson On Strategic Digital Collaboration At MWC 2026
BARCELONA: In a move to accelerate Sarawak’s digital transformation, a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak (MUT) met with global technology company Ericsson today, on the sidelines of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026.
The meeting, led by Sarawak Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Liwan Lagang, marked a key step in exploring potential cooperation in telecommunications, smart utilities, digital platforms and capability building, drawing on innovations and global insights presented at MWC 2026.
“This engagement provides a valuable platform to explore potential collaborations, facilitate knowledge exchange and learn from global best practices in telecommunications, digital infrastructure and intelligent network technologies showcased at this premier global forum.
“Let us use this opportunity to establish strong foundations for innovation, knowledge transfer and long-term strategic collaborations that deliver tangible benefits to Sarawak and our partners,” said Datuk Liwan during the meeting.
He underscored the state’s ambition to emerge as a digitally advanced economy and regional innovation hub.
Aligned with the aspirations of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, he said Sarawak is actively pursuing strategic partnerships that support its digital transformation agenda.
These include expanding resilient, high-quality connectivity, deploying smart utility systems, adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud and data-driven solutions, as well nurturing future-ready digital talent.
In this regard, the Deputy Minister acknowledged Ericsson as a global leader in information and communications technology with extensive expertise in 5G, AI-driven networks, cloud-native solutions and intelligent infrastructure.
“Ericsson has been instrumental in the evolution and commercialisation of mobile networks, powering hundreds of live 5G networks across more than 80 countries and enabling advancements in smart factories, connected transport, precision agriculture and other digital industries.
“The company’s innovations in network automation, cloud-native core and sustainable, efficient connectivity demonstrate how telecommunications infrastructure can support complex digital ecosystems at scale.
“Ericsson’s extensive R&D, global collaborations and strong patent portfolio underline its commitment to driving resilient, inclusive and sustainable digital transformation, aligning closely with Sarawak’s priorities of connectivity, innovation and economic growth,” he added.
Present at the meeting were President and Chief Executive Officer of Ericsson Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh David Hagebro, Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, SDEC Board Member Dato Ir Janang Bungsu, MUT Deputy Permanent Secretary Syed Mohamad Fauzi Shahab, General Manager of Sarawak Multimedia Authority Dato Dr Anderson Tiong Ing Heng, SDEC CEO Dato Ir Ts Sudarnoto Osman, SMD Semiconductor CEO Shariman Jamil, and senior officers of various departments and agencies in Sarawak. -UKASnews
