BARCELONA: SMD Semiconductor recently took part in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2026.

According to a statement, Chief Executive Officer of SMD Semiconductor Shariman Jamil took the stage at Sarawak Pavilion with ‘Powering the Future with GaN: From Sarawak to Global Energy Systems’ on the second day of the event.

“The interest was clear from the start, especially around why GaN is becoming increasingly relevant in power electronics and how it fits into the bigger energy picture.

“Beyond the technology, he shared where SMD is heading, its long-term ambitions and why talent development including the Semiconductor Mastery Programme and the recent collaboration with the University of Bristol and Yayasan Sarawak, is a key part of the journey,” the statement said.

Many event-goers expressed interest in SMD’s progress in Sarawak and the keteq.GaN technology, signalling strong interest in the state’s semiconductor ecosystem. -UKASnews
