Launch Of Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV Supports Sarawak's Green Mobility Transition
KUCHING: The launch of the latest hybrid electric vehicle model, the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV by Proton Melinau Auto Group, is seen as an important step in accelerating the transition towards green mobility in Sarawak.
Sarawak Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said electric vehicle (EV) technology is one of the important approaches in an effort to reduce carbon emissions, especially in the transportation sector.
“The transport sector contributes up to about 18 percent of the total carbon emissions in the environment, so the use of electric vehicles can be an effective step towards reducing the impact.
“The use of EVs can be implemented through two methods, namely battery-based electric vehicles (Battery EV) and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (Hydrogen Fuel Cell EV),” he said.
He said this during his speech at the E.mas7 PHEV launch ceremony held at Vivacity Megamall on Friday.
He added that currently, EV battery technology is a suitable transition method before Sarawak moves towards the use of hydrogen technology in the future.
Meanwhile, Datuk Dr Hazland also praised the capabilities of the new EV model which is capable of achieving travel distance of more than 1,000 kilometres on a single charge, thus enabling the journey from Kuching to Miri non-stop.
He said the development of EV technology is also in line with various policies introduced by the Sarawak government to strengthen the environmental sustainability agenda, including the Environment Ordinance, Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Ordinance, Sarawak Energy Transition Plan and the Economic Roadmap Hydrogen.
Meanwhile, Melinau Auto Group Chief Executive Officer, David Yii Teck Sing said that through Proton e.MAS, Melinau EV also recorded another important milestone in its efforts to drive green mobility in Sarawak through the launch of the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV which features the first dual-power EV system in Malaysia.
As one of the leading distributors of electric vehicles in the region, Proton Melinau Auto Group continues to expand its role in introducing sustainable mobility technology as well as increasing public awareness about EVs and the readiness of the charging ecosystem in Sarawak.
The launch, which took place in conjunction with the month of Ramadan, also provided visitors with an opportunity to take a closer look at the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV model and enjoy special promotions and test drive sessions.
