Sejambak Kasih Aidilfitri For 1,086 Recipients In Miri
MIRI: A total of 1,086 Muslim welfare aid recipients in Miri Division received donations in conjunction with the Sejambak Kasih programme from the Social Welfare Department (JKM).
Sarawak Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the Sejambak Kasih programme was organised to help ease the burden of the underprivileged, especially Muslim welfare aid recipients in preparing to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
According to her, the initiative also aims to cheer up aid recipients and help improve the quality of life of underprivileged families.
“At the ceremony today, a total of 150 recipients were invited to attend to receive a cash donation of RM100 each.
“In addition, 100 other recipients will receive the same donation at the Sejambak Kasih Ceremony at the Bekenu Community Hall on March 14, while 836 recipients who were unable to attend will receive the donation directly through crediting to their respective accounts,” she said.
She said this at the Miri Division 2026 Sejambak Kasih Aidilfitri programme held at the Dynasty Hotel compound, here on Monday.
A total of 15,454 recipients of welfare assistance throughout Sarawak will receive Aidilfitri donations this year involving a total amount of RM1,545,400.
At the same ceremony, the hotel also donated a hamper of food items worth RM150 to each recipient, bringing the total donation to RM22,500.
Dato Sri Fatimah said cooperation between the government and the private sector was crucial to ensure that the welfare of the community continued to be maintained, especially the needy.
Meanwhile, Dynasty Hotel Miri Managing Director Tony Pui said the Aidilfitri donation programme has been an annual event for the hotel for the past 26 years, in collaboration with the Miri Social Welfare Department for 24 years.
He added that the hotel will continue to foster a caring spirit and a culture of giving among its staff and strive to help the needy community in Miri.
Also present were Sarawak Deputy Minister of Women and Early Childhood Development and Bekenu Assemblyman Datuk Rosey Yunus, Sarawak Social Welfare Department Director Semawi Mohamad, Miri District Officer Siti Rohanie Yusof, Miri Division Social Welfare Officer Vivian Engkiong, as well as heads of departments, counsellors, penghulu and community leaders. - UKASnews
