Community Urged To Nurture Compassion Throughout Ramadan
KUCHING: The community has been urged to continue cultivating compassion and a spirit of mutual assistance in daily life, particularly during the blessed month of Ramadan.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof said that the practice of fasting is not merely about abstaining from food and drink, but also about nurturing the heart to become more devoted to Allah and fostering individuals who are mindful of the welfare of others.
“Fasting teaches our hearts to become better and to always remember one another. In Islam, it is also mentioned that a person’s faith is not complete until he loves his brother as he loves himself.
“When we have the ability to help those who are less fortunate, that is one of the ways we express compassion and strengthen the bonds within our community,” he said.
He said this while speaking at the Sumbangsih Santunan Kasih Seindah Syawal programme held at the Samariang State Legislative Assembly service centre here on Saturday.
During the programme, a total of 150 residents from the Samariang state constituency received financial assistance and festive cookie hampers as preparation for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
The annual programme, organised by the Women’s Wing of the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Samariang Branch, aims to reach out to those in need while helping to ease the financial burden of preparing for the Syawal festivities.
Meanwhile, Datuk Amar Fadillah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Petra Jaya, expressed hope that such initiatives would continue to foster compassion, welfare and volunteerism among the community, while strengthening unity within society.
Also present at the event were the Deputy Prime Minister’s wife Datin Amar Ruziah Mohd Tahir, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, Malaysia Agreement 1963 and State–Federal Relations), Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, and Director of the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), Dato Georgina Apphia Ngau. -UKASnews
