Kenyalang Smart City Drives Smart City Transformation In Miri
MIRI: The Kenyalang Smart City (KSC) project in Kuala Baram is drawing closer to a key phase as its main component, the Kenyalang Convention & Exhibition Centre (KCEC) One, is expected to be completed by May 2026, further strengthening Miri’s position as a smart city hub and emerging economic centre in northern Sarawak.
Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, said the development of KSC reflects the state government’s commitment to advancing a smart city that integrates technology, healthcare and sustainability to improve the quality of life for the people.
He made the remarks during a working visit to the project site at Jalan Curtin, Kuala Baram, on Saturday.
Also present during the visit were Sarawak Transport Minister and Senadin Assemblyman, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I (Tourism), Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, and Miri Mayor and Pujut Assemblyman, Adam Yii Siew Sang.
The delegation was received by the founder and chairman of Imasa Dinasti Sdn Bhd, Ar. Teo Ah Khing, who delivered a briefing on the KSC master plan, including collaboration with international institutions such as Fudan University in developing initiatives centred on health and innovation.
During the visit, the delegation observed the construction progress of KCEC One, which is set to become a modern convention and exhibition centre with a capacity of 3,500 visitors at any one time, while also serving as a catalyst for the events industry and investment in Miri.
A symbolic plaque-signing ceremony for KCEC was also held as a milestone marking the project’s progress, along with the presentation of a book on health innovation as a symbol of the integration of technology and well-being elements in the development of KSC.
The first visit by Datuk Amar Dr Sim to the project site provided a clear picture of the current progress as well as the potential of KSC in strengthening Sarawak’s smart city development landscape that is sustainable, inclusive and competitive. -UKASnews
