RM160,000 Boost Strengthens DBNA Bau, Supports Bidayuh Development & Heritage
BAU: The Bau branch of the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) has received a funding boost of RM160,000 in an effort to strengthen community development while preserving the ethnic identity of the Bidayuh people.
Deputy Minister of Transport and Tasik Biru Assemblyman, Henry Harry Jinep, said that of the total amount, RM150,000 has been allocated to upgrade the DBNA quarters through the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) 2027, while another RM10,000 has been channelled under the Minor Rural Project (MRP) 2026 to support the association’s annual activities.
He said this when officiating at the DBNA Bau Branch Triennial General Meeting on Saturday.
According to him, the Bidayuh community must continue to safeguard its heritage and customs as the foundation of its identity, even as it navigates the tide of modernisation.
“Our identity as the Bidayuh people must never be forgotten, no matter where we are,” he said.
At the same time, he urged the Bidayuh community to place emphasis on education and skills to ensure they are not left behind in the current of socio-economic development.
He added that the implementation of the Greater Bau Blueprint 2016–2030 was the result of comprehensive engagement with the local community to drive development in the area.
Also present were Bau District Officer Eddy Nayoi and Temenggong of the Bidayuh Community for the Kuching Division Atok Derop. -UKASnews
