SMK Tebakang Makes History Representing Serian On Global Stage In Jakarta
SERIAN: Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tebakang is set to make history as nine of its students will represent the school and the Serian district in two international innovation programmes: the World Cup Innovation 2026 (IWC2026) and the International Invention Innovation Competition 2026 (I3C2026), scheduled to take place at the State University of Jakarta, Indonesia, from June 2 to 7.
This participation marks SMK Tebakang as one of the rural schools brave enough to compete at a global level, thereby bringing pride to the Serian Division on the international stage.
SMK Tebakang will send three teams in the innovation category—NeuroNova, CodeWave, and Vellfire Team—who will present their respective innovative ideas that have the potential to impact the global community.
Serian Member of Parliament, Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem, took the opportunity to present financial contributions to the nine involved students as a sign of support for their participation in the international competition during a handover ceremony held at the SMK Tebakang Meeting Room on Thursday.
In the meantime, SMK Tebakang Principal, Benjamin Spencer Latif, stated that this is a major milestone in the 51 years since the school's founding, as it has successfully entered a global competition in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
“In fact, students from this school previously participated in a programme in India in 2025, but this participation carries even greater meaning as it involves a world-class innovation competition,” he said.
He added that this opportunity not only opens opportunities for students to gain international experience but also acts as a catalyst for developing a culture of innovation among rural students.
According to him, this effort is also hoped to inspire other schools to dare to challenge themselves at the global level and prove that rural students are also capable of competing on the world stage.
Benjamin expressed his gratitude to Dato Sri Richard Riot for the support and contributions given to the students, while hoping that the school's contingent will be able to achieve success and bring trophies back to Malaysia on June 7. — UKASnews
