Miri Team Heads To National Stage, Showcasing Sarawak’s Dragon & Lion Dance
MIRI: The participation of the dragon and lion dance team from Miri in the national competition reflects Sarawak’s continuous efforts to uphold traditional cultural arts so that they remain relevant and competitive.
Sarawak Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin stated that involvement in prestigious competitions can raise performance standards to a higher level.
He said this while officiating the eye-dotting ceremony and the handover of the Sarawak flag to the Miri Wai Sheng Dragon and Lion Dance Association at the Some Shak Lung Kung Temple on Saturday.
According to him, the team will participate in a national competition involving 20 teams, with the top seven to be selected for the final stage to represent Malaysia on the international stage.
He added that the high-pole performance category is among the primary challenges, while this participation marks the team’s fourth appearance in the competition.
The Miri team, which is also Sarawak’s sole representative, is scheduled to compete in Johor this May, with the hope of bringing glory to the state on an even higher stage.-UKASnews
