Diesel Price Difference Between Sarawak & Peninsular Malaysia Justified By Logistics Costs
KUCHING: The difference in diesel prices between Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia is deemed a justified measure, taking into account geographical factors and the higher logistics costs in the state.
Sarawak Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh stated that this approach is appropriate as Sarawak faces the challenges of a vast landscape and higher development and distribution costs.
“If we look at it, some do not understand the logistics side. The reality is, despite cost development schemes, goods here remain expensive. We also use a lot of diesel because Sarawak is large and the dependency on diesel vehicles is high,” he said.
He said this when asked to comment on the lower diesel prices in Sabah and Sarawak compared to Peninsular Malaysia, after officiating the flag-off for the LCDA Sapphire Run 1.0 with the Community at Padang Merdeka here on Sunday.
Datuk Len Talif emphasised that the price difference is a correct step as it considers the actual needs of the people in the state.
The programme was also attended by LCDA General Manager Datu Sr Zaidi Mahdi, North Kuching City Commission (DBKU) Mayor Dato Hilmy Othman, Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development (MUDeNR) Permanent Secretary Datu Abdullah Julaihi, Sarawak Forest Department Director Datu Hamden Mohammad, Sarawak Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Controller Datu Jack Liam, Sarawak Land and Survey Department Director Datu Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood, Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (PUSAKA) General Manager Datu Zainal Abidin Abdullah, and DBKU Director Ramzi Abdillah. — UKASnews
