KUCHING: Former Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Administration) Datu Buckland Bangik was sworn in today as a member of the Sarawak Ombudsman following his appointment which took effect on 2 March 2026.
The oath-taking ceremony was conducted before High Court Judge Dean Wayne Daly, in accordance with the provisions under the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance 2023 which requires all appointed Ombudsman members to take the oath before officially assuming their duties.
Sarawak Chief Ombudsman Dato Sri Abdul Ghafur Shariff said Datu Buckland's appointment fulfils the minimum membership requirement of the Sarawak Ombudsman as stipulated under the ordinance.
“Today marks an important milestone as we have achieved the minimum quota of five Ombudsman members, although the maximum allowed is seven,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) after the swearing-in ceremony here.
Meanwhile, he said the Sarawak Ombudsman will continue to carry out its role in receiving public complaints and monitoring state ministries, departments and government-linked companies (GLCs).
