Malaysia Cup Semi-Final: Strong Support Determines Kuching City FC's Advance To Finals
KUCHING: The strong support of the people of Sarawak is seen as the main catalyst in bringing Kuching City FC to the finals of the Malaysia Cup, creating new history for football in the state.
Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah expressed strong confidence in the team's ability after recording a 1-1 draw in the first semi-final against Selangor FC in an away match.
According to him, the result provided Kuching City FC with an advantage in morale and crucial momentum to face the return match.
"As Sarawakians, of course we must give full support to the team representing this state. Although it bears the name of Kuching, in reality it represents the whole of Sarawak from Limbang, Miri to Bintulu," he said.
He said this during a press conference on the organisation of the Teresa Teng 31st Memorial Tribute Concert 2026 here on Tuesday.
The Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts also described the first leg as a fierce and high-quality match, in addition to showcasing the team's impressive performance despite playing on the away field.
Commenting on the return leg scheduled to be held in Kuching on 18 April, he expressed optimism that Kuching City FC would be able to secure victory with the advantage of playing in front of their own fans.
"I am very confident in the team's performance. We still have 90 minutes to go and God willing, we will win the second leg," he said.
In this regard, Dato Sri Abdul Karim called on all Sarawakians to fill the stadium to give their full support to the team in their mission of securing a place in the finals.
"I hope that Sarawakians from Kuching, Samarahan, Sibu, Miri and other regions will come together on 18 April to support the team. This is an opportunity for us to witness history being made," he said.
He added that the momentum brought by Kuching City FC at this time should be fully utilised, as it has been long since a Sarawak team has achieved this level in the national football competition.
"The presence of a team like Kuching City FC gives a boost of enthusiasm and excitement to the people of Sarawak," he explained. -UKASnews
