BPHB Records 52 Million Tonnes Cargo Throughput In 2025
KUCHING: The exceptional performance of Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) continues to position it as a key driver of Sarawak’s economy, having recorded a total cargo throughput of 52 million tonnes in 2025.
Sarawak Secretary and BPHB Chairman Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki said the figure was supported by the handling of 313,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of container cargo, as well as over 7,600 vessel calls.
He said the achievement saw Bintulu Port handling over 80 per cent of Sarawak’s total imports and exports.
“From liquefied natural gas (LNG), palm oil and timber to heavy industrial cargo and raw materials, the port remains the backbone of Sarawak’s economic ecosystem,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the BPHB 30th Anniversary Dinner officiated by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg at a leading hotel here, on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar revealed that Samalaju Industrial Port is set to become the first fully-fledged Free Zone port in Sarawak following approval in principle by the Ministry of Finance.
He added that the free zone port framework is now being expanded to include Bintulu Port, which will create a comprehensive and globally competitive industrial corridor.
Also present were daughter of the Sarawak Premier Dayang Norjihan, Sarawak Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Sarawak Minister for Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Deputy Ministers, BPHB President and Group Chief Executive Officer Dato Ruslan Abdul Ghani and other dignitaries. -UKASnews
