BPHB Strengthens Sustainability Agenda In Port Management
KUCHING: Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) continues to strengthen its sustainability agenda in port management in line with efforts to transform Bintulu Port into a world-class green maritime hub.
Sarawak Secretary and BPHB Chairman Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki said sustainability has now become a core pillar of the company’s mission and operations.
"Last year, Bintulu Port was awarded the Green Terminal Label Certification by Bureau Veritas, as official recognition of our commitment to environmental management and continuous transformation towards becoming a leading green maritime hub," he said.
He said this when speaking at the BPHB 30th Anniversary Dinner officiated by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg at a leading hotel here, on Tuesday.
He added that among the initiatives implemented include the use of six hybrid RTGs as well as the introduction of EV terminal towing tractors to reduce carbon emissions in heavy operations.
In addition, large-scale solar panel installations on warehouse rooftops have been carried out to generate clean and renewable energy.
Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar said that BPHB is also exploring the use of EV and hydrogen-powered tugs to modernise marine services as part of efforts to further strengthen its green agenda.
“We are also advancing plans for a dedicated Liquid Hydrogen plant to support Sarawak's energy logistics and exports,” he explained.
Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar added that BPHB is also laying the groundwork for green bunkering facilities to meet the needs of the next generation of environmentally friendly global shipping.
He said all these efforts are aligned with Sarawak's aspirations under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and the Sarawak Digital Blueprint. -UKASnews
