Saint-Gobain, Flinken Group Form Strategic Joint Venture In Sarawak To Drive Sustainable Construction
SINGAPORE: The Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS) recently facilitated a strategic joint venture between Saint-Gobain, a global leader in light and sustainable construction, and Flinken Group, a Sarawak-based innovative construction materials specialist.
STATOS said, by combining Saint-Gobain’s global technical expertise with Flinken Group’s established manufacturing capabilities, the joint venture aims to accelerate growth and innovation across Sarawak, further supported by the development of a strategic logistics hub to enhance distribution efficiency and regional connectivity.
Under the agreement, Saint-Gobain Flinken will support next generation needs and meet growing demands across Malaysia and the Southeast Asia (SEA) region for light and sustainable building and construction materials.
The joint venture will be supported by a phased capital investment into manufacturing upgrades and logistics infrastructure in Sarawak, including the development of a dedicated logistics hub with enhanced warehousing and distribution capabilities, which will also serve as a potential export base for Southeast Asian markets.
In addition, the initiative will introduce advanced production technologies and sustainable product lines.
It is also expected to create new employment opportunities, establish structured training programmes for local talent, and drive measurable improvements in carbon reduction and material efficiency across its product offerings.
“As the facilitator of this event, STATOS continues to solidify its role as the primary gateway for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into Sarawak.
“The successful hosting of this signing ceremony at the Singapore exhibition space underscores STATOS' commitment to connecting international industry leaders with Sarawak’s emerging economic opportunities,” it said in a statement on Wednesday.
Key leadership from both organisations including Marcus Sia from Flinken Group and CEO of Saint-Gobain Asia Ludovic Weber attended the ceremony which took place at the STATOS Gallery on 10 April.
In his welcoming address, CEO of STATOS Chew Chang Guan highlighted that the partnership brings together global expertise and advanced technologies with strong local knowledge.
“It is exactly the type of impactful collaboration STATOS aims to foster, creating real economic value and building local talent,” he said.
According to CEO of Saint-Gobain Malaysia and Singapore Lynette Slow, the joint venture underscores confidence in Malaysia’s long-term growth and reinforces the company’s commitment to supporting the industry’s readiness for this next phase.
“As Malaysia enters a transformative decade, technology, innovation and sustainability will increasingly define its built environment, supported by a strong decarbonisation and efficiency agenda that is moving the industry from aspiration to compliance,” she said.
Meanwhile, Founder of Flinken Group Marcus Chai stated that this milestone marks an exciting new chapter as the company continues to support the development of Malaysia’s building materials industry.
“From our roots in Sarawak, Flinken Group has grown steadily into a leading local manufacturer by consistently delivering high‑quality mortar solutions that meet evolving customer needs,” he said.
The joint venture aims to bring a positive socio-economic impact through four key areas, namely knowledge transfer and talent development, sustainable building and local industry empowerment, research, development and innovation (RDI), as well as community and policy engagement. -UKASnews
