MIRI: The Sarawakku Sayang (SKS) 2026 programme in the Miri Division, scheduled to take place at Miri Stadium from 24 to 26 April, will serve as a strategic platform for the Sarawak Government to strengthen engagement with the public and deliver development initiatives directly at the grassroots level.
The second leg of the programme following Limbang is targeting around 20,000 visitors and will be graced by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg on 25 April.
Miri Division Resident Galong Luang said such an approach in engaging the public is vital to ensure more effective and inclusive dissemination of government information.
The Chairman of the SKS Miri Division Organising Committee explained that the programme brings together government services, development information and community activities on a single platform, allowing the public to interact directly with government agencies.
Galong said this during an interview session with MIRIfm at the RTM Miri Studio on Thursday.
According to him, the programme is important in strengthening public trust in the government while fostering a spirit of togetherness in line with the ‘Sarawakku Sayang’ slogan.
He added that the target of 20,000 visitors includes attendees from Baram, Sibuti and Bintulu throughout the three-day programme.
A range of high-impact activities has been lined up, including the Sarawak Pavilion which will feature exhibitions and services from various government agencies, enabling the public to access services directly in one location.
In addition, more than 80 local entrepreneurs will participate in the Miri Kitchen and stalls, further strengthening the local economic ecosystem.
The programme will also feature Pocket Talk sessions focusing on current economic issues in the state by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) Sarawak, as well as entrepreneurship topics by Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat.
Also among the highlights are the Sarawak Cultural Night and ‘Pentas Rakyat’, showcasing cultural diversity and local talents, alongside community activities such as the 3-kilometre SKS Fun Run, aerobics sessions, community competitions and family-oriented activities.
Galong emphasised that the programme is open to the public with free admission, ample parking facilities and efforts to provide free bus services to facilitate attendance.
He added that comprehensive promotional efforts through various platforms, including live streaming on the UKAS Facebook page and YouTube channel, will help extend the programme’s reach to a wider audience.
He expressed hope that the programme will not only enhance public understanding of government development initiatives, but also further strengthen unity and public trust in the state leadership. -UKASnews
