iCPD Bridges Gap Between Industry Needs & Local Skills
SERIAN: The Industry Continuous Professional Development (iCPD) Programme is an initiative introduced by the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak (MEITD) to bridge the gap between industry needs and local talent competencies.
MEITD Minister Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said human capital development remains central to the ministry’s agenda, particularly in ensuring workers are equipped with relevant, industry-driven skills.
“As such, such initiatives are crucial in strengthening the state’s economic resilience while safeguarding the welfare of its workforce.
“The programme reflects the Sarawak Government’s commitment to developing a future-ready workforce capable of supporting a strong and sustainable economy,” he said when officiating at the closing ceremony of the iCPD Programme for Serian and Siburan, at the Serian Administrative Centre on Wednesday.
The Tarat Assemblyman highlighted that the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) training component is a clear demonstration of the ministry’s commitment to workplace safety.
He further underscored that the OSH Coordinator training is a legal requirement under the new Occupational Safety and Health (Amendment) Act 2022, where employers with five or more workers are required to appoint a trained individual to oversee workplace safety and health matters.
“The iCPD OSH Coordinator training series first began in Bintulu and has since been expanded across Sarawak. The session held today in the Serian and Siburan districts marks the 10th series of the programme, reflecting its growing reach and impact statewide,” he added.
Meanwhile, Dato Sri Roland Sagah expressed satisfaction with the strong inter-ministerial collaboration demonstrated through the programme, noting that the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak (MINTRED) and the Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Sarawak (KPWK) have adopted similar training initiatives to further enhance community wellbeing.
He also congratulated the 21 participants who successfully completed the training and encouraged them to apply their knowledge and skills in their respective workplaces.
Also present were MEITD Deputy Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, MEITD Permanent Secretary Datu Adana Jed, Serian Division Resident Caroline Cleophas Joseph, and other dignitaries. -UKASnews
