KUCHING: Community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK) have been urged to gain a clear understanding of national and state matters, including the Federal Constitution, the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), the Rukun Negara and government policies, to ensure accurate information can be conveyed to the public.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian such understanding is crucial as the KMKK serve as key intermediaries in delivering information to local communities.
He explained that there is currently a growing tendency among society to spread negative matters rather than highlight the positive efforts and policies implemented by the government.
“This is very important because today we are facing several unhealthy habits. Why do I say this? Even when a policy is good, there are still parties who speak against it.
"If something is negative, it can easily become viral," he said when speaking at the closing ceremony of the ‘Seminar Kenegaraan Malaysia MADANI: Dewan Undangan Negeri Sarawak’ held at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex on Thursday.
He added that it is equally important for the public to provide accurate and balanced information to the Sarawak Government so that improvements can be implemented more effectively.
In addition, Datuk Amar Dr Sim said that the importance of the Sarawak DUN should be better understood, particularly its role in enacting laws that benefit the state, including the Sarawak Sales Tax and the introduction of a carbon levy.
“That is why this August House is so important, and it is only fitting that all our KMKK understand these matters,” he said.
Also present were Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali and other dignitaries. -UKASnews
