Sarawak Shines in Bocce, Seals Gold at 2026 National Special Olympics
BINTULU: The host contingent, Sarawak, continued to excel in the bocce event after securing two gold medals in the men’s doubles category at the Special Olympics Malaysia 6th National Games Sarawak 2026, held at Stadium Muhibbah Bintulu on Sunday.
In the Men’s Doubles Group 2 category, the Sarawak ‘A’ pair of Ethan Teo Zu Cheng and Mohamad Lylia Danial Abdullah emerged as champions after delivering a consistently excellent performance throughout the competition.
Meanwhile, another gold medal was secured in the Men’s Doubles Group 3 category when the Sarawak ‘B’ pair Mohamad Adam Ashraff Abdullah and Frederick Tay Li Xian delivered a convincing performance to top the competition.
Deputy Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam officiated the medal presentation ceremony for the winners, thereby demonstrating the state government’s strong support for the development of athletes with special needs.
He also took part in a friendly bocce match with the Sarawak Social Welfare Department Director Semawi Mohamad whereas both teamed up with Special Olympics athletes from Penang and the Federal Territory of Putrajaya in a spirited and inclusive atmosphere.
The organisation of this championship serves not only as a platform for talent identification among athletes but also strengthens values of unity, self confidence and social inclusion within the community, in line with Sarawak’s aspiration to build a more inclusive and prosperous society. -UKASnews
