PERKESO & SCOPE To Hold Career Fair On 20 May, Offering Hundreds Of Job Opportunities
KUCHING: The Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) in collaboration with the Sarawak Centre of Performance Excellence Sdn. Bhd. (SCOPE) will host the MYFutureJobs x GETS-WRP Career Fair 2026 on 20 May at the Sarawak State Library, serving as a platform to expand job opportunities particularly for graduates in Sarawak.
The career fair, themed 'Your Career Starts Here' and scheduled to run from 9 am to 5 pm, targets the participation of unemployed graduates, final-year students of higher learning institutes, and job seekers looking to enhance their career prospects through direct job matching.
PERKESO Sarawak Regional Head Dr Belinda Lim Kim Moi stated that this collaboration utilises the MYFutureJobs platform, a national job portal powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI), to match job seekers with legitimate employers and verified vacancies.
“This platform connects job seekers with employers more transparently and efficiently.
“We do not only verify vacancies, but also assist in matching candidates before, during, and after the fair,” she said when interviewed by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) at the SCOPE office here on Tuesday.
According to Dr Belinda, this data-driven approach also helps to reduce the issues of job mismatch and skills mismatch that frequently occur among graduates.
“Through an extensive talent database, we help employers find the most suitable candidates, while job seekers receive guidance such as interview preparation, career counselling and upskilling programmes,” she further explained.
Meanwhile, SCOPE Chief Executive Officer Joseph Lim Jit Sek said the fair is expected to offer at least 249 vacancies so far, with that number anticipated to continue rising leading up to the event.
“This is a job-matching platform that provides graduates with the opportunity to interact directly with employers, attend on-the-spot interviews and gain industry exposure,” he said in the same interview.
He added that the sectors involved include services, finance, energy, oil and gas, manufacturing, construction and various other industries.
He added that one of the primary objectives of the programme is to encourage graduates to kickstart their careers, even if the role is not their ideal job.
“No job is perfect at the start. What matters is that graduates make a start, even if it isn't the job they dreamed of. From there, the experience gained will open up more opportunities in the future,” he emphasised.
Besides job opportunities, visitors can also register directly for the Graduates Enhancement Training Sarawak-Work Readiness Programme (GETS-WRP), which offers skills training, allowances and industry exposure to participants, with the goal of boosting employability and reducing unemployment rate in the region.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend and bring their resumes to take part in direct interview sessions with employers. -UKASnews
