RM4 Million HDC Loan Drives Construction Of New Longhouses In Kakus
SELANGAU: The Sarawak Government, through the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), has approved RM4 million in loans for four projects in the Kakus Constituency this year.
Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai explained that the allocation is part of the government's ongoing commitment to helping the people own more comfortable homes, specifically through the construction of new longhouses.
According to him, the overall HDC assistance involves an allocation of RM10 million from the Federal Government and RM50 million from the Sarawak Government.
He noted that for the period between 2018 and 2025, a total of RM7.34 million was channelled by the Federal Government, while RM21.779 million was provided by the Sarawak Government.
“To ensure more people can enjoy these benefits, loan recipients are advised to make consistent repayments so that these funds can be recycled for other applicants,” he said during the ‘Leaders with the People’ session and the symbolic inauguration of a new longhouse at Rumah Kunjan Anti here on Thursday.
He also advised residents to obtain verification from the Land and Survey Department before constructing new longhouses to ensure site suitability and to avoid any wastage.
In a related development, Dato Sri John Sikie, who is also Kakus Assemblyman, informed that his constituency is also benefiting from a surge in development via the Mid Rajang Regional Development Agency (MiRRDA), with an allocation of RM1 billion for infrastructure projects and RM500 million for the agricultural sector, including palm oil, coffee, and livestock.
At the same event, he channelled Minor Rural Project (MRP) assistance totalling RM19,000 to the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) involving 19 doors (households), in addition to Sarawak Poor Home Improvement Programme (PPRMS) aid of RM4,000 per door.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Selangau, Edwin Banta, called upon the people in his speech to continue cooperating to ensure the success of the development agenda in the area.
He also announced an allocation of RM10,000 for the women's bureau and construction material assistance worth RM15,000 to support the longhouse construction.
