Bau Cultural & Tourism Festival 2026 Showcases Uniqueness Of Bidayuh Culture
BAU: The Bau Cultural and Tourism Festival 2026 is set to take place over two days on 8 and 9 May at the REDEEMS Centre, Singai, featuring various exciting activities that showcase the unique culture of the Bidayuh community, with an expected attendance of between 3,000 and 5,000 visitors.
Sarawak Deputy Minister for Transport and Tasik Biru Assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said that the festival will commence on 8 May from 3 p.m. until midnight, while on 9 May, it will run from as early as 10 a.m. until midnight.
“The organisation of this festival aims to introduce the culture, customs, heritage, and history of the Bidayuh people as a major tourism attraction in the Bau district,” he said during a press conference on Thursday.
Throughout the two-day event, visitors will be treated to various activities, including open houses, traditional art performances, cultural exhibitions, and the sale of handicrafts and local food.
Furthermore, the event will feature a line-up of guest artistes such as Baby Shima, At Adau, Depha Masterpiece, Timothy, Claudia Geres, Ellawati Zaidi, Elliza Suezina, The Friendster, Blackjack, Pak Maon, Mr Sam The Band, Remix R2 Band, Uncle Din Band, and Suk Binie’.
Commenting further, Datuk Henry noted that the Bidayuh society in the Bau district, comprising the Bratak, Jagoi, Singai, Serembu, and Krokong/Tringus communities, possesses a distinct uniqueness that deserves to be highlighted.
Moreover, members of other communities, such as the Chinese, Malay, and Salako Rara, have also been invited to host open houses to further enliven the festival.
“The concept of ‘gotong-royong’ or ‘kerja samah’, which is a traditional practice of the Bidayuh community, is also being applied in the organisation of this festival as a symbol of community unity,” he explained.-UKASnews
