RM1 Million Allocation To Strengthen Bung Bratak Heritage Centre Infrastructure
BAU: An allocation of RM1 million to upgrade the infrastructure of the Bung Bratak Heritage Centre is seen as a strategic step in empowering the preservation of the Bidayuh community's cultural heritage and boosting eco-tourism development in the area.
Opar Assemblyman Billy Sujang said the allocation, channelled through the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), includes the provision of electricity to enhance the facilities and operational capabilities of the centre.
According to him, the provision of 24-hour electricity will open up more opportunities for organising activities involving the community, government agencies, and the private sector.
“With these facilities in place, Bung Bratak has the potential to grow as a more dynamic heritage and tourism hub,” he said.
He said this durng the 2026 Bung Bratak Day Celebration held at the Bung Bratak Heritage Centre, Kampung Tembawang Sauh, on Friday.
The celebration, organised by the Bung Bratak Association, attracted approximately 1,000 visitors and was officiated by the Sarawak Deputy Minister for Transport (Riverine and Maritime), Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.
Also present were Serembu Assemblyman Dato Miro Simuh, along with community leaders and heads of departments.
Commenting further, Billy Sujang said the celebration is not merely an annual event but serves as a symbol of identity and pride for the Bidayuh community, recalling the history of migration and the early settlement of their ancestors at Bung Bratak.
Meanwhile, Datuk Henry Harry Jinep emphasised in his speech that Bung Bratak is a symbol of the identity, resilience, and unity of the Bidayuh people that must continue to be preserved.
He stated that efforts to strengthen facilities in the area align with the state's development aspirations, which prioritise heritage preservation and sustainable tourism development.
“Bung Bratak tells the story of our ancestors, their journey, the challenges they faced, and the values they passed down,” he remarked.
He added that Bung Bratak is becoming increasingly well-known as an eco-tourism and heritage destination with great potential for further development.
Various activities were held throughout the celebration, including cultural performances, traditional food preparation, and hiking activities to the summit of Bung Bratak, which remains a major attraction for visitors. — UKASnews
