Siol International Mountain Bike Challenge Returns From 21–23 August, Receives UCI Recognition
KUCHING: The Siol International Mountain Bike Challenge (SIMBC) 2026 returns for its 11th edition, set to take place from 21 to 23 August at the Bukit Siol cycling track.
Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this year’s edition continues to record a proud achievement after receiving recognition from the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the world governing body for cycling.
According to him, the recognition also sees Kuching selected as one of the venues for the UCI final league series in Sarawak, further strengthening the state’s position as a trusted host for world-class sporting events.
“This recognition is not easy to achieve. A world body such as the UCI does not simply grant recognition, but evaluates what we have done over the past few years,” he said.
He said this during a press conference at Baitulmakmur 2, on Wednesday.
He added that the annual organisation of SIMBC has consistently attracted riders from within and outside the country, thereby promoting Sarawak as a growing sports tourism destination.
For this edition, about 250 riders are expected to participate involving both international and local participants, including from Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei and Singapore.
SIMBC, which is known for its challenging trails in the Siol area of Petra Jaya, not only tests riders’ physical endurance, but also offers unique natural scenery, making it one of the increasingly popular extreme cycling events in the region.
The continued organisation of the event is also seen as capable of generating positive impact on the local economy, particularly in the tourism, hospitality and creative industry sectors in Sarawak. -UKASnews
