SFCF 2026 Returns To Enliven Samarahan, Strengthening Tourism & Community Economy
KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Samarahan Food & Cultural Festival (SFCF) 2026 is set to return to Kota Samarahan, scheduled to take place for 10 days from June 26 to July 5, 2026, at the grounds of the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS).
MPKS Chairman Abang Ismawi Abang Ali said the festival will highlight the diversity of food, culture, arts, and heritage of the Sarawakian community in an effort to strengthen Kota Samarahan's position as a competitive cultural and gastronomic tourism destination.
He noted that the success of last year's SFCF, which received approximately 300,000 visitors, has become a catalyst for MPKS to establish the festival as an annual event.
He said this during a press conference at the MPKS Public Library here on Friday.
He further added that the festival serves not only as a platform to promote traditional, modern, and popular food products but also introduces the unique culture and heritage of Sarawak's diverse ethnic groups to both local and international visitors.
According to him, the organisation of SFCF 2026 also focuses on community economic development through the participation of small and medium entrepreneurs, while strengthening strategic cooperation between agencies, local authorities, and the local community.
The opening ceremony of the festival is scheduled to be officiated by Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, on June 27, 2026.
Various exciting activities will be held throughout the festival, including the Ratu Kebaya and Ratu Cilik Kebaya competitions, Battle of Buskers, Samarahan Idol, Malay bertandak competitions, and Chinese karaoke.
In addition to stage events, visitors will be treated to various side activities such as a Night Run, e-sports competitions, street soccer, archery, seni silat tari, cooking competitions, carrom, a pineapple fest, flower arrangement, slingshot, cake decorating, colouring, and an autoshow.
The festival will also be enlivened by performances from guest artists such as Nai Dinamik, Faris Malek, Nurhijrah, Rizal AF, Lucy M, Leez Zwita, Ricky Andrewson, and Allesandro.
Also present at the press conference were MPKS Deputy Chairman Daily Joseph, MPKS Municipal Secretary Gustian Durani, and representative of the Samarahan Division Resident Janfytria Abu Bakar. — UKASnews
