Inclusive Policies Propel Sarawak As Model Of Harmony
Miri: Sarawak continues to stand out as a leading example of racial and religious harmony in Malaysia, driven by the leadership of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Government which champions inclusivity and development for all communities.
Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the spirit of togetherness remained one of the state’s greatest strengths and a key reason Sarawak is widely regarded as a model of unity.
According to her, the leadership of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Abang Openg, coupled with his clear vision and structured direction, has instilled confidence among Sarawakians in the state’s future.
“We can see why Sarawak is able to become a model of unity. One of the key reasons, in my view, is the existing leadership. The leadership of the Premier of Sarawak has the ability to unite the people.
“Sarawak is truly fortunate to have a leader with a very clear vision. His mission and aspirations are well defined, and as citizens, we understand the direction in which he intends to lead us,” she said.
She said this when officiating the Sarawak-Level Unity Week celebration at the Boulevard Mall parking compound, here on Sunday.
Dato Sri Fatimah added that under Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari’s leadership, Sarawak has witnessed rapid progress through the construction of infrastructure such as bridges.
She noted that the state is increasingly gaining international recognition, particularly in the field of green energy which was previously not widely known.
“Just look at how many bridges have been built. It is almost unbelievable. These were once things we could only dream of, yet today those dreams have become reality.
“In green energy, the Premier of Sarawak’s emphasis on hydrogen, the digital economy, innovation and sustainable development have instilled a deep sense of pride among Sarawakians and, in turn, strengthened our unity,” she explained.
She said the various policies and initiatives introduced by the GPS Government are implemented inclusively to ensure the benefits of development are enjoyed by all segments of society irrespective of race, religion or location.
“The GPS Government ensures that no one is left behind, whether in urban or rural areas.
“It is this inclusive approach that reinforces the sense of belonging and unity among the people of Sarawak,” she added.
Dato Sri Fatimah also said one of the clearest examples of the GPS Government’s commitment towards preserving harmony is the establishment of the Unit For Other Religions (UNIFOR), which assists non-Muslim houses of worship in terms of construction and maintenance.
She further noted that the free tertiary education initiative at state-owned institutions for eligible Sarawakian students also reflects the government’s determination to ensure fair access to education opportunities.
“Eligible Sarawakian students, especially in STEM-related fields, are now able to pursue their studies free of charge at institutions such as Curtin University Malaysia, University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus and i-CATS University College,” she added.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato Lukanisman Awang Sauni, Deputy Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Rosey Yunus and Secretary-General of the Ministry of National Unity Datuk Haslina Abdul Hamid. -UKASnews
