Sarawak Strengthens Access To World-Class Education Through MASA-UOM Collaboration
KUCHING: Sarawak continues to strengthen human capital development as the Institute of Management Sarawak (MASA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The University of Melbourne (UOM) in an effort to expand access to world-class education and professional development.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said the collaboration is highly significant as Sarawak undergoes major economic transformation involving the renewable energy sector, digital economy, artificial intelligence (AI), advanced manufacturing and green technology.
“Collaboration with international institutions such as The University of Melbourne is crucial because the university is globally recognised in the fields of research, innovation, business education and academic leadership.
“Through this collaboration with MASA, the people of Sarawak will gain broader access to world-class education and professional development opportunities without having to leave the region,” he said.
He said this while speaking at the MoU signing ceremony between MASA and UOM here on Tuesday.
Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari added that the introduction of the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme under the collaboration is expected to produce leaders capable of addressing complex economic challenges, managing organisations effectively and driving innovation in both the public and private sectors.
At the same time, he stressed that the Sarawak Government will remain committed to supporting education at all levels, including digital education, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), higher education and international collaborations that benefit the people of the state.
“We want the people of Sarawak, especially the younger generation, to have access to globally recognised programmes in preparation for future industries and leadership roles,” he said.
Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, and Interim Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics at The University of Melbourne, Professor Peter Gahan. -UKASnews
