Sibu To Host 2026 Sarawak Day Celebration, Over 5,000 Expected To Attend
KUCHING: The 2026 Sarawak Day Celebration, which will take place in Sibu from 20 to 22 July, is expected to draw more than 5,000 attendees.
Sarawak Minister for Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said this year’s celebration will feature a range of inclusive programmes reflecting Sarawak’s unique identity as a multi-racial and multi-religious state.
“The involvement of community leaders, village chiefs and the public must be comprehensive, particularly from the central zone, to ensure the success of this celebration,” he said.
He said this during the Sarawak Day Celebration Main Committee Meeting No.1/2026 held here on Thursday.
Among the main programmes planned is a Sales Carnival coordinated by Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapa’ee.
In addition, an Interfaith Thanksgiving Ceremony will be held at Kingwood Hotel under the purview of Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil.
Meanwhile, the Zumba and Unity programme, scheduled to take place at Dataran Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang, will be coordinated by Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee.
At the same time, a Thanksgiving Ceremony will also be held at the An-Nur Mosque, while a townhall session is scheduled to take place at the Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Chancellor Hall.
Both programmes will respectively be coordinated by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya and Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol.
The highlight of the celebration, comprising the Sarawak Day Assembly and ‘Konsert Rakyat’, will be coordinated by Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh. -UKASnews
