Curtin Students Gain Valuable Insights During Visit To Sarawak Legislative Assembly
KUCHING: A group of students from Curtin University Malaysia had the opportunity to gain firsthand experience during a study visit to the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here on Friday.
The visit, accompanied by Pujut Assemblyman Adam Yii Siew Sang, aimed to expose students to the administrative system and parliamentary proceedings, while deepening their understanding of the state’s legislative institution.
One of the students, Lim Zhi Yeng from Melaka, described the visit as a meaningful experience that allowed her to understand how laws are drafted and how people's representatives voice opinions in the public interest.
“I learned a lot today, such as the process of enacting laws and how representatives speak up for the people. The design of the DUN building is also very fascinating, especially the nine pillars that symbolise the people,” she said when interviewed.
Meanwhile, Eugene Supang Paran from Miri said the experience was incredibly special and that he was thrilled to witness the atmosphere of a DUN Sitting in person.
“To me, this experience is very special and I am grateful for it. The atmosphere here is great, and I was very excited to meet all the Honorable Members (YBs),” he said.
He also expressed his hope that the younger generation would see Sarawak continue to grow into a more developed state in the future.
“As a member of the youth, I hope Sarawak continues to evolve and becomes a more advanced and civilized state. I hope Sarawak moves toward a better future with continuous improvements and good decision-making from our leaders,” he remarked.
Another student, Chiew Jiao Hao from Kedah, noted that the visit was a brand-new experience for him as he had never visited a government building before.
“This is a new experience for me because I have never been inside a government building. The design of the DUN and the meaning behind the architecture made it a very interesting experience,” he said.
According to him, the visit also provided an opportunity to understand the legislative process and the government’s responsibilities in administering the state.
“I learned how laws are debated, how they transition from the State Assembly to actual implementation, and how the government is formed, including its objectives and responsibilities,” he added. -UKASnews
