RM185 Million SACOFA Network Transformation Reinforces Sarawak’s Digital Infrastructure
KUCHING: The Sarawak Government continues to strengthen the state’s digital transformation agenda through the implementation of the RM185 million SACOFA Network Modernisation initiative, which is expected to enhance the capacity and efficiency of telecommunications infrastructure throughout Sarawak.
Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said the initiative, which commenced in November 2025, is scheduled for full completion in the second quarter of 2027.
“The implementation of this initiative began in Kuching in line with its role as the main integration centre.
“This effort will continue in phases throughout Sarawak to ensure more comprehensive implementation.
“To date, the project has achieved 17 per cent progress,” he said.
He said this during his ministerial winding-up session at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Monday.
Further elaborating, he said the network capacity through the project will be upgraded from 1.6 terabits per second (Tbps) to 7.2 terabits per second (Tbps).
In addition, he said the speed at each site will also be increased from 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) to 100 gigabits per second (Gbps), thereby strengthening network reliability and reducing network congestion across the state.
He added that the implementation of the project is also expected to support the growing digital demands, including government service delivery, the business sector and the development of Sarawak’s digital economy. -UKASnews
