Sarawak Records Positive Growth Of Air Connectivity In Q1 2026
KUCHING: Sarawak records positive growth in performance of air connectivity in the first quarter of 2026.
Sarawak Minister for Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the state recorded 34,758 aircraft movements, an increase of 7.14 per cent.
“Passenger movements also increased to 2.8 million passengers, representing a 9.58 per cent growth compared with the corresponding period in 2025,” he explained.
He said this during his ministerial winding-up session at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Monday.
Dato Sri Lee added that Sarawak also recorded an average of 46 weekly international flights and 533 weekly domestic flights from other Malaysian states.
He further highlighted the efforts to position Sarawak as an emerging aviation transit hub in the region through several international flights.
“In addition to the Haikou-Kuching route by 9Air, Sarawak’s international connectivity is further strengthened with the recent launch of the Guangzhou-Kuching direct scheduled charter flight, operated by Batik Air starting 18 March 2026, marking another milestone in Sarawak’s growing global air network,” he said. -UKASnews
