Asia-Pacific Green Hydrogen Conference To Be Held On 9-11 June
KUCHING: Sarawak continues to strengthen its position as a regional leader in the hydrogen economy through the organisation of the Asia-Pacific Green Hydrogen Conference, which will be held from 9 to 11 June at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said the conference will serve as a strategic platform to expand international cooperation in developing a sustainable, resilient and high-impact hydrogen ecosystem for the future economy.
“It reflects our shared commitment to pushing the boundaries of new energy that is not only sustainable but also capable of supporting economic resilience and long-term prosperity,” he said.
He said this during a press conference on the Asia-Pacific Green Hydrogen Conference at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex on Tuesday.
According to him, 28 international and regional speakers have confirmed their participation so far, with the number expected to increase in the near future.
Further elaborating, Datuk Dr Hazland said the global energy landscape is currently undergoing major changes driven by challenges of climate change, technological advancement, energy security demands and global geopolitical uncertainties.
“In this context, green hydrogen has emerged as one of the most promising solutions to decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors such as heavy industry, transport and power generation.
“However, it is important to emphasise that hydrogen is not a standalone solution. Instead, it must be developed as part of a complete and resilient ecosystem that integrates production, infrastructure, regulation and end-use applications in a structured and sustainable manner,” he said.
He added that Sarawak is not merely seeking to participate in the rapidly growing global hydrogen industry, but aspires to emerge as a key leader in hydrogen economy development in the Asia-Pacific region.
As such, he said the development of the hydrogen economy requires strong regional and international cooperation, particularly in regulatory alignment, technological development, strategic investment and compliance with safety standards. -UKASnews
