Breaking News Run 2.0 Reinforces Healthy Lifestyle, Strengthens Media & Community Relations
KUCHING: The organisation of the Breaking News Run 2.0 night run programme is seen as a significant platform for fostering a healthy lifestyle while strengthening relations between media practitioners and the community.
Sarawak Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the second edition of the programme shows positive development with a target participation of around 1,200 participants, reflecting an encouraging response towards running events in the state.
According to him, the trend of organising running events, including marathons and half-marathons, continues to grow in Sarawak in line with efforts to cultivate an active lifestyle among the people.
“This programme not only promotes physical and mental health, but also serves as a medium to bridge the ties between media practitioners and the public,” he said during a press conference on Breaking News Run 2.0 here, on Tuesday.
The event is organised by the Commonwealth Journalists Association (CJA) Sarawak Branch in collaboration with the Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA), and has received support from various parties including the relevant ministry, corporate sectors and local agencies.
Among the main highlights is the night run involving two categories, namely 7 kilometres (km) and 3km, which is expected to see the participation of media practitioners, healthcare workers, fitness enthusiasts and the public.
Commenting further, he said the running route will pass through several iconic locations in the city of Kuching illuminated by night lights, thus offering a different experience for participants while enjoying the transformation of the city's increasingly attractive landscape.
In addition, participants will also stand a chance to win various lucky draw prizes, including mobile phones, gym memberships, running shoes and watches as well as hotel stays.
The programme also features a unique element through jersey design options themed after international football teams as an added attraction for participants.
Also present at the press conference were Batu Kitang Assemblyman Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, as well as representatives of agencies and sponsors involved in making the programme a success. -UKASnews
