KUCHING: Logistics challenges within the hydrogen industry can be overcome through various technological approaches currently being developed.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said that although logistics issues are frequently raised in the development of the hydrogen industry, there are several methods that can be utilised to ensure the energy can be transported and capitalised on effectively.
“However, the logistical aspect can be executed through the production of ammonia as one of the methods.
“Aside from that, there is also a hybrid approach, so I think from a logistical standpoint, it is not a problem,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after officiating the Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen Conference and Exhibition (APGH) 2026 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Tuesday.
He added that the use of liquid hydrogen also holds potential for implementation, but it requires a compression process that involves certain technical aspects.
Therefore, he is leaving that challenge to the experts in the respective field, besides ensuring the development of sufficient human capital to support the growth of the sector.
In the meantime, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari emphasised that the most crucial aspect in developing a hydrogen economy is the production cost of the energy.
According to him, current technological advancements have helped reduce hydrogen production costs, making it increasingly competitive compared to fossil fuels.
“From my observation, the cost is steadily decreasing when compared to fossil fuels,” he stated. — UKASnews
