Sarawak Strengthens Women Leadership Empowerment Through Strategic Development Programmes
KUCHING: The Sarawak Government remains committed to strengthening women leadership empowerment through the implementation of various strategic development programmes focused on enhancing skills, personal capacity and the potential of women from all levels of society.
Sarawak Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said through programmes such as the Women Leadership Programme (WLP), Leadership Bootcamp for Youth and the Master of Arts in Leadership Development programme, women including representatives from non-governmental organisations (NGOs), women Community Leaders and Village Chiefs (KMKK) as well as higher education students are given opportunities to strengthen their leadership skills, strategic communication and critical thinking.
According to her, starting this year, the WLP will be expanded to three sessions involving NGO representatives and women KMKK throughout Sarawak.
She said this during her ministerial winding-up session at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, she explained that the first session was held in the Bintulu Division from 14 to 19 April, involving 30 participants consisting of 20 NGO representatives and 10 women KMKK representatives from the Bintulu, Sebauh and Tatau districts.
“Two more sessions of the programme are scheduled to take place in the Sibu and Miri Divisions in August and October 2026, respectively,” she said.
In a related development, she shared that the Leadership Bootcamp for Youth programme, which targets female IPT undergraduates, will also be continued to nurture the leadership talent of young women from an early stage.
Two sessions of the programme will be carried out in the Miri and Kuching Divisions this coming June and September. -UKASnews
