Sarawak Strengthens Inclusive Workplace Culture Through GENDERate Change@Workplace
KUCHING: The Sarawak Government continues to strengthen its inclusive social development agenda through the implementation of the ‘Gender Sensitivity: GENDERate Change@Workplace’ programme, which will be carried out in Kuching, Sibu and Miri beginning June 2026.
The initiative, introduced under the Diversity, Equality, Equity and Inclusivity (D2EI) Programme, aims to enhance awareness and understanding of gender-related issues in efforts to create a safer, more professional and discrimination-free workplace environment.
Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the inaugural programme targets participation from civil servants, government-linked companies (GLCs) and community partners from non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
“It is hoped that this initiative will strengthen the culture of mutual respect while increasing awareness of the role of every individual in creating a more inclusive and harmonious workplace,” she said.
She said this during her ministerial winding-up session at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Tuesday.
In a related development, the Sarawak Women@Work Programme is also being strengthened in line with the Sarawak Women@Work Initiative under Strategy 1 of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
The programme focuses on increasing women’s participation in the workforce while expanding economic opportunities and entrepreneurial capacity development for women in Sarawak.
Among the key components of the programme include assisting women in securing employment opportunities, expanding access to government agency services and strengthening the capabilities of women entrepreneurs.
This year, six programmes will be implemented in Mukah, Sibu, Kapit, Miri, Betong and Kuching in collaboration with the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), the Business Registration Agency, institutions of higher learning (IPTs) and NGOs. -UKASnews
