Scouts & Girl Guides To Benefit From New Campsite Complex In Matang
KUCHING: The Scout and Girl Guide movements will soon enjoy enhanced camping facilities in Matang through the development of a new campsite complex.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said the site will feature its own building, enabling both organisations to conduct their activities more effectively.
“We are also developing a building which, as I have been informed, is about 70 per cent complete, with only 30 per cent of the work remaining.
“Once completed, it will provide an opportunity and facility for Scout and Girl Guide movements from across Malaysia to gather and organise various related activities,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after officiating at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Headquarters of the Scout Association of Malaysia, Sarawak Branch, at Batu Lintang on Saturday.
Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari, who is also the Chief Scout of Sarawak, said the facilities are intended to help train youths involved in the Scout and Girl Guide movements by providing a venue for activities that foster character development and build strong personal values.
According to him, the Sarawak Government had previously allocated the area to the Scout and Girl Guide movements to serve as an activity centre and campsite, and the site had also hosted Scout jamborees in the past. -UKASnews
