Associations Play Role In Strengthening Family Values & Community Unity
MIRI: Associations do not merely serve as platforms to bring members together, they also play a vital role in nurturing family values, reinforcing community unity, and acting as a bridge between the public and the government.
Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (Tourism) and Piasau Assemblyman, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, said this role is evident through the various activities and programmes carried out by associations to safeguard the welfare and interests of their members.
He made these remarks while delivering a speech at the Parents' Day Dinner and Fundraising Night organised by the Youth Movement and Women's Movement of the Kwong Wai Siew Association, Miri Branch, held at a prominent hotel on Saturday.
He said the Kwong Wai Siew Association Miri has played a significant role in nurturing many talented individuals through various member development programmes, including the provision of educational aid and awards.
"Thanks to the tireless efforts of past generations and the cooperation of members from one generation to the next, this association continues to thrive and remains relevant to this day," he said.
He also emphasised the importance of appreciating the contributions of parents and senior citizens as the foundation of a harmonious family and a compassionate society.
He noted that love for one's parents must be expressed through actions and not merely words, including spending time with them and showing genuine concern in everyday life.
"The way we treat our parents and respect our elders is always observed by our children. This attitude will serve as a model and example for the generations to come," he said.
He added that the value of filial piety is a cherished cultural heritage of the Chinese community that must continue to be preserved and passed down to future generations. -UKASnews
