Sarawak Water Intensifies Flushing Operations As Complaint On Discoloured Water In Kuching Decline
KUCHING: Sarawak Water continues to intensify its flushing operations and field monitoring efforts to address reports of discoloured and cloudy water affecting several areas in Kuching, with recent observations showing a decline in complaints.
In a statement received on Wednesday, Sarawak Water said various mitigation measures had been continuously carried out following its earlier notice on June 6 regarding the increase in complaints involving discoloured and cloudy water in parts of Kuching Division.
The utility provider said its operations and technical teams had since stepped up flushing activities to clean the affected pipelines, while carrying out field monitoring to expedite the recovery and stabilisation of the water distribution system.
“Recent monitoring has shown positive progress, with water supply conditions in most affected areas continuing to improve, while the number of complaints received has also decreased compared with the previous week,” Sarawak Water said.
It explained that the discolouration and cloudiness were believed to have been caused by sediment and silt disturbances within the distribution pipeline system following changes in water flow and the ongoing stabilisation process in several areas.
Sarawak Water stressed that the issue was not due to any failure in the water treatment process at the Batu Kitang Water Treatment Plant, which continues to operate and be monitored as usual.
Although the overall situation is showing encouraging improvement, Sarawak Water said it would continue with flushing operations and monitoring until the distribution system was fully stabilised and water quality returned to a satisfactory level.
“Sarawak Water remains committed to ensuring consumers receive quality and safe water supply,” it said.
The utility provider also apologised for the inconvenience caused and expressed appreciation to consumers for their patience and cooperation throughout the period. -UKASnews
