26 Contingents Join The Niti Daun Procession For Mukah Gawai Dayak 2026
MUKAH: A total of 26 contingents involving more than 1,000 participants enlivened the Niti Daun Procession held in conjunction with the District-Level Gawai Dayak Celebration for Mukah 2026, which took place at Pehin Setia Raja Square on Saturday.
The procession, joined by various government agencies, departments, associations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), primary and secondary schools, as well as the local community, reflected the spirit of unity and harmony among the multiracial society in this district.
Deputy Minister of Health, who is also the Member of Parliament for Mukah, Dato Hanifah Hajar Taib, said the Niti Daun Procession is not merely a platform for preserving the customs and culture of the Dayak community, but also serves as an important medium for strengthening unity among the races.
According to her, the participation of various ethnic groups including the Iban, Melanau, Malay, Chinese, Bidayuh and Orang Ulu in the event proves the spirit of togetherness that forms the strength of Sarawak society.
"Today, we can see various races joining this procession. The presence of all parties sets the best example of harmony and unity among the people.
"This kind of spirit and mutual understanding is a noble value of the people of Sarawak that must continue to be preserved and strengthened," she said while speaking at the official launch of the programme.
In addition, Dato Hanifah also reminded the public to always take care of their own health and that of their families, particularly when facing unpredictable weather conditions.
At the same event, for the contest with the most contingents, the primary school category was won by Sekolah Kebangsaan Saint Patrick, while the secondary school category was won by Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Three Rivers.
For the association and NGO category, victory went to the Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Mukah, while the agency and department category was won by the Dalat and Mukah District Council (MDDM).
Meanwhile, the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) Mukah emerged champion of the Banner Competition, while Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Three Rivers was crowned overall champion of the Niti Daun Programme at the Mukah District Level 2026.
Also present were Tellian Assemblyman Royston Valentine, Mukah Division Resident Bujang Rahman Seli, and Mukah District Officer Peleadzman Ahip. -UKASnews
