Tambirat Waterfront Project To Be Reviewed, Government Takes More Cautious Approach
KUCHING: The waterfront development project in Tambirat, which previously experienced delays following a structural collapse incident, will be reviewed to ensure its execution is more organized and safe.
Sarawak Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development and Asajaya Assemblyman, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said the incident has affected the overall implementation of the project, including its subsequent phases.
According to him, the government does not take the incident lightly and will ensure every aspect of the project is evaluated more rigorously before proceeding.
“When something unexpected like this occurs, it naturally disrupts the original planning. However, we will take a more cautious approach to ensure the same incident does not happen again,” he said.
He said this when met by the media after officiating the Closing and Prize Presentation Ceremony of the Sarawak Youth Business and Innovation Challenge (saYBIC) 2025/2026 here on Sunday.
He added that the review, involving technical, operational, and monitoring aspects, will be prioritised to guarantee the long-term safety and effectiveness of the project.
In the meantime, he also hoped that residents in the Tambirat area could remain patient while efforts to complete the project continue.
He explained that the development of the waterfront is expected to bring positive impact to the local community, including boosting economic and tourism activities in the area.
“I want to resolve this issue, but we cannot avoid certain unforeseen possibilities. I hope the residents of Tambirat can be patient, because once this waterfront is completed, many events and benefits can be enjoyed,” he added. — UKASnews
