Sarawak Government Allocates RM39 Million To Construct SNDB Complex Tn Dalat
DALAT: The Sarawak Government has allocated RM39 million for the construction of the Sarawak Sago and Nipa Development Board (SNDB) Complex in Dalat.
Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said that the project serves as a step to strengthen the development of the sago and nipa industry in the state.
"This complex will showcase the entire sago industry chain, including the cultural aspects closely linked to the crop, thereby functioning as a more comprehensive reference centre in this region.
“Because of that, it needs to be superior and comprehensive, aligning with Sarawak's position as a major sago producer and the industry's reference centre,” she said.
She said this during the Closing Ceremony of the Dalat Balau Carnival 2026 held at the Dalat Waterfront on Saturday.
Dato Sri Fatimah, who is also Dalat Assemblywoman, informed that SNDB also assists in resolving land ownership issues faced by smallholders by acting as a facilitator to the Land and Survey Department.
So far, she noted, a total of 110 land-related applications have been submitted, with 38 approved, while 36 grants have been handed over to applicants and another two are awaiting the handover process.
“A total of 58 applications are still being processed, and this effort is vital to ensure that the development of the sago industry can be executed in a more structured manner while delivering continuous benefits to smallholders,” she explained.
In another development, she also announced that the state government has approved the Dalat Boutique Hotel project.
According to her, it will be managed by a state government-linked company to support the growth of the local tourism sector.
Throughout the carnival, various activities such as cultural performances, exhibitions of sago-based products, government agency exhibitions, traditional sports, and side programmes successfully attracted community participation, especially among the youth.
Also present at the event were Balingian Assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi and SNDB General Manager Zaidell Hussaini. — UKASnews
